More About Our 2016 Winter Commencement Speaker
Steve Arner, M.B.A.
President and Chief Executive Officer,
Carilion Medical Center
Steve Arner is currently President and CEO of Carilion Medical Center.
He originally began his career with Carilion in 1996 as a Financial Analyst and has since served as Budget Manager, Human Resources Compensation and Analytics Director, Hospital Administrator at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital, and Senior Vice President of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Services, Surgical Services, Environmental Services, and Engineering and Maintenance.
In addition to his work at Carilion, Mr. Arner also worked briefly at CIGNA Health Insurance–working with both the System Nursing Executive as well as in the Medical Management Division. The son of an Army physician, he has lived in many different places, including: Salt Lake City, Honolulu, Ft. Leavenworth, KS; Frankfurt, Germany; and Rockville, MD. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University where he was a Hawes Scholar.
Mr. Arner is on the board of directors for the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, the Virginia Health Care Waste Management Cooperative and Feeding America Southwest Virginia, as well as the American Hospital Association state alternate delegate for the Regional Policy Board.
