On Monday, January 30, 2017, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, traveled to Roanoke to hear from students at Jefferson College of Health Sciences studying to become nurses, physician assistants, occupational therapists and other members of the medical community about how a repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would impact their work, Virginians' access to care, and the local economy. Sen. Kaine toured the College, a part of Carilion Clinic, before meeting with students. Carilion, the area's largest employer which employs 12,100 workers in the Roanoke area.
